The T-Birds, future Big Sky opponents of the Wildcats, are in the FCS Top 25 for the first time since 1998 after crushing UTSA last week. Southern Utah is ranked No. 23 this week.
Weber State dismantled No. 20 Sacramento State, but the Wildcats haven’t cracked the Top 25 yet, checking in at No. 36 with 52 points — ironically, that’s two places behind Sac State, which is still riding the coattails of an overtime win against Oregon State in Week 1 but lost big to both SUU and WSU.
Other Big Sky teams in the poll include Montana State, which moved up to No. 4; Montana, just in the top 10 at No. 10, and defending FCS champion Eastern Washington, which is No. 21 despite being 0-3 to start the season.
Weber State and Southern Utah will make their cases against each other Oct. 22 at Stewart Stadium. It will be the last time the in-state rivals meet as non-conference foes before the Thunderbirds join the Big Sky Conference in 2012.

Just a further illustration that pre-season or early season polls aren’t much worth the paper they’re no longer written on.
