Simple question: What political interest group has been more abused by a candidate these suckers backed? It’s an easy answer — progressives, particularly those under 30, who supported President Barack Obama. The Obama administration has punk-slapped these poor saps to the point that progressives’ interest in 2012 elections are slightly higher than the ratings for the Lingerie Football League. (Click)
GOP/Libertarian Ron Paul’s surge in the caucuses and primaries is due to an influx of under 30s backing him. This is why Paul crosses 20 percent in polls, instead of 8 to 15 percent. About half of those age 16 to 29 are unemployed; the Obama administration doesn’t care about this age group — it’s too busy catering to the deep pockets of labor unions, which reward worker seniority above worker competence. The administration allowed Wall Street to emasculate most of the “financial services reform” bill.
In the War on Terror, ignore the campaign rhetoric from GOP candidates, Obama has channeled George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Guantanamo remains open; drones are assassinating U.S. citizens; we’re still fighting the Taliban; TSA personnel are allowed to harass paying air customers; and President Obama has signed into law the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens in an undefined war on terror.
Were these the policies that progressives believed they were signing up for when the elected Obama in 2008? I’m sure that most older progressives will take a big shot of whiskey to numb themselves and cast a vote for Obama this fall; where else can they go — to Rocky Anderson? But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of under-30s cast a third-party ballot this year.
