Reeves replaces Foley at Total Mayhem card; boxing card on tap for Davis

MMA: As most people know, Ogden MMA fighter Dave Foley hurt his back in training and had to pull out of his scheduled April Total Mayhem co-main bout against Steven Sharp. A couple of days ago, promoter Isaiah Salazar tabbed Ogden MMA veteran Patrick Reeves to fight Sharp. There are some changes, though. Instead of three five-minutes of MMA action, the bout has been changed to a three three-minute rounds of kick boxing. MMA fights include co-main eventer, Ogden’s Craig Mock, who will fight Lolo Tuiaki. Other fights include Ogden Cisco Alcantara, who fights Isaac Carraballo. Also, Ogden pro Shawn Conroy will meet Richard Urias. According to Salazar, 12 bouts are scheduled at The Gym in West Haven.  The Standard-Examiner will have a TM card preview in a few days.

Davis County 170-pound MMA pro Jordan Smith, 17-3, had a tough night on Friday in Bellator action, being stopped in 22 seconds by undefeated David Rickles, 10-0, in the quarterfinals of this year’s B tourney. … Got some results of MMA fights at last week’s Tooele card. According to promoter Flash Newman, Adrin Elias defeated Richard Hamilton via round 1 TKO; Also, Chris Allan stopped Kevin Hamby in the first round.

Boxing: The big news is that it looks like there will be a Tracy Spinks promoted CCC fight card at the Davis Conference Center, perhaps on May 12. Here is a list of local fighters who are being discussed as part of the card (one or two have already made deals): Ogden heavyweight Billy Zumbrun, Ogden cruiserweight Val Tinajero, SLC cruiserweight/heavyweight Gary Gomez, Ogden cruiserweight Freddie Martinez, and Layton junior middleweight Eddie Cordova. This blog knows about some of the potential opponents but won’t name them until deals are complete so as to not throw a monkey wrench in best-laid plans. The card will also have amateurs. … The Utah Golden Gloves are going on this weekend. Ogden heavy Jesse West is competing. We’ll provide results as we get them. UPDATE: West won his heavyweight open fight, beating Sepi Pahua. He advances to the Rocky Mountain championships. Another winner was Ogden Diego Alvarez.
