RSL extends winless streak to seven

Real Salt Lake had a great chance to end its six-game winless streak on Saturday against its Rocky-Mountain Cup rival the Colorado Rapids, however RSL had to play a man down in the final eight minutes and Colorado took advantage.

After Yura Movsisyan scored in the 79th minute to give RSL a 1-0 lead, Colorado’s Omar Cummings got the equalizer in the 88th minute. The teams ended up tying 1-1.

“I thought we did an excellent job controlling the game and we got that goal,” said RSL midfielder Clint Mathis. “They did well defensively to keep it tight in there but we were able to break them down and get one and to give up that goal at the end was disappointing but that’s the game of soccer.”

RSL’s Robbie Russell picked up his second yellow card of the game in the 82nd minute and was ejected

The Rapids are still in the lead for the Rocky Mountain Cup, having a win and a tie in the two games so far this season. RSL will need to beat Colorado in the final game of the season at Rio Tinto Stadium in order to keep the cup in Utah.

“We want that cup,” Cummings said. “They’ve had it for the past two years and we wanted it tonight but unfortunately we’ll have to wait. We’ll do that, patiently.”
