For the second time in three years, Weber State head coach Randy Rahe won the honor of Coach of the Year in the Big Sky Conference. The official announcement will come later today.
The third year WSU coach, who also was the league’s coach of the year two seasons ago, guided the Wildcats to a 15-1 league mark as the Wildcats became the first team in league history to go 8-0 on the road in conference games.
Overall Rahe is 57-35 at WSU and 36-12 in Big Sky Conference regular-season games. Rahe is also one of 10 finalists for the 2009 Hugh Durham national coach of the year award. The Durham is given annually to the top mid-major coach in the nation, and the winner will be announced at the Final Four next month in Detroit. The other finalists are Duggar Baucom (VMI), Randy Bennett (Saint Mary’s), Todd Bozeman (Morgan State), Ed Conroy (The Citadel), Brad Greenberg (Radford), Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa), Saul Philips (NDSU), J.D. Piper Nicholls State) and Brad Stevens (Butler).
