When I went to listen to Rep. Rob Bishop speak to a Republican women’s group a bit ago he almost choked but had to admit that he sorta, kinda, hoped that President Obama would succeed. Really, what’s he gonna do, come out against prosperity and for economic disaster?
I had the feeling, more, that he was taking the opportunity to take shots at the Democratic House leadership, which makes sense since Speaker Pilosi is the new GOP version of Satan incarnate…I guess I’m glad to see that Bishop isn’t joining the “Always hate Obama all the time” crowd that is rapidly becoming an orphan arm of what’s left of the GOP, although if we give him time he may yet. I’ve known Rob a long time — I covered his first race for the Utah house decades ago, and he’s pretty doctrinaire, but also considers politics more a game to be won than a way to run the country.
Wow, got way off course .. it will be interesting to see Bishop’s take on the speech tonight. Is he getting harder right? Is he still saying nice things about Obama?
And, given all that, how did the rest of you all like the speech by President Obama tonight? I thought it was well done, very inspiring, but not hokey or condescending like so many of Bush’s were. Whether he can get the agenda through Congress remains to be seen, but nobody, at this stage, can accuse him of wavering in his push.
